Join The Toronto Consort in welcoming internationally acclaimed scholar, lutenist, and tenor, Marc Lewon, as we celebrate the incredible contributions of 15th-century multi-disciplinary musician and composer, Conrad Paumann (c. 1410-1473). Known to history as the “Blind German”, Paumann revolutionized lute technique by developing a method of playing all voices at once: striking the strings with a plectrum. An evening of Paumann keyboard transcriptions, Strike the Lute will feature Esteban La Rotta and Marc Lewon on lutes, with a mixed accompaniment on voice, harp, flutes, and vielle.
