Libretto & Story by Spy Dénommé-Welch | Music by Spy Dénommé-Welch & Catherine Magowan

Introducing “Canoe,” an all-new two-act opera that defies convention and embraces invention. Led by Unsettled Scores, this intercultural production showcases the rich talents of four Indigenous singers and an ensemble of historical instruments, including recorder, violin, cello, lute, and harpsichord. Immerse yourself in the captivating tale of two sisters, their ancestral tree, and an old, but familiar, visitor from the past. Through a minimalist aesthetic, this poignant work breaks free from Eurocentric structures, creating an accessible and safe space for diverse audiences to experience the transformative power of Indigenous storytelling and opera. Join us on this extraordinary journey of cultural exchange and celebration.
